Received a text message from this short code saying ‘Thanks for your recent payment of $57.99. It will be applied to your Verizon account ending in 082-0001.” I am not a customer of Verizon and have not made any payments to Verizon, so I assume this is phishing of some sort.

Although 27589 short code has been assigned to Verizon it appears that the number has been hijacked and is being used for phishing scams.

I just now received an SMS from 275-89 “Verizon Residential Message: Your Temporary password is (code number/link). You can now sign into Verizon using this password. This password expires in 2 hours. I’m assuming this is phishing as I haven’t asked for any password resets. Unless dsl is considered “residential” service, I don’t have that service through Verizon.
